The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Pharmacy Diversion Awareness Conference will take place on Saturday, May 4th, and Sunday, May 5th, 2013 at the Marriott Detroit at the Renaissance Center. These one-day conferences are open to pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and loss prevention personal employed by hospitals, clinics, or pharmacies registered with Michigan’s DEA. After completing the conference, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will be eligible for seven continuing pharmacy education credits.
The goal of these conferences is to discuss the growing problems related to pharmaceutical controlled substance in the United States—including the theft and robbery of pharmacies, forged prescriptions by patients, and illegitimate pharmaceutical prescribing by physicians. There is no registration fee for the conferences, but transportation, lodging, and meal expenses will not be provided.
For more information about how properly disposing of expired pharmaceuticals aids in the DEA’s diversion efforts, contact Pharma Logistics at (888) 561-3874. You can also visit us online for more information about our pharmaceutical return services.

Millions of individuals take prescription medications on a daily basis in order to treat chronic diseases, illnesses, and conditions. In the event that a medication is no longer needed or has become expired, many people simply throw the remaining medications away or flush them down the toilet. However, it is important to follow certain safety precautions when disposing of expired or unneeded pharmaceuticals. Continue reading for more information about the importance of proper pharmaceutical disposal.
Reduce Health Risks
Despite the fact that prescription medications are beneficial for individuals suffering from both physical and mental ailments, they can be potentially harmful if taken by an individual to whom they are not prescribed. If you have pets or children, disposing of expired pharmaceuticals is equally important to prevent accidental ingestion.
Decrease Chances of Drug Abuse
There has been a rise in prescription drug abuse over the past several years for a number of reasons, including ease of access and unsafe disposal practices. Having your prescription medications discarded by a professional pharmaceutical disposal company ensures that your expired medications will not fall into the wrong hands.
Avoid Water Contamination
Many people do not realize the danger of flushing their expired prescription medications down the toilet. However, a study performed by the U.S. Geological Survey found that our water systems, lakes, streams, and rivers contain traces of pharmaceutical drugs—including antibiotics, contraceptives, steroids, and hormones. As a result, nearly 40 million Americans are currently being exposed to pharmaceutical drugs in their drinking water.
Don’t let your expired pharmaceuticals put your community or environment in danger. For more information on safely disposing medications, call Pharma Logistics at (888) 561-3874. We will soon be offering an expired pharmaceutical disposal service to our customers. Until then, contact us with your questions or visit us on the Web to sign up for the expired pharmaceutical returns service ahead of time.

All medications must undergo in-depth testing by the United States Food and Drug Administration before becoming available to the public. Even after the medication has been tested for safety, effectiveness, and offered to consumers, the FDA continues to monitor the pharmaceuticals or OTC medications for potential problems. This article will take a closer look at the most common causes of drug recalls and steps to take if a medical has been recalled.
Common Reasons for Recall
A medication may be recalled or taken off of the market for a number of reasons. In some cases, a medicine may be recalled for product mislabeling, providing the wrong dosing tool, or failing to provide adequate instruction. Drugs that may have become contaminated during production or distribution may also be recalled. Medications may also be recalled if they have been manufactured in a way that affects their quality or potency. In some cases, a drug may be recalled because it was placed in the wrong packaging material.
Steps to Take
Many individuals panic when they find out that a medication they have been taking has been recalled by the FDA. It is important to take into account the fact that most drug recalls are done for minor issues, meaning that you may not necessarily be at a health risk. Instead of panicking, take the time to research the recall on the Food and Drug Administration’s website for more information. You can also take steps on your own to protect your safety, such as not taking a medication in which the bottle or wrapper shows signs of tampering or contamination.
One of the most important steps to take when a drug has been recalled is to dispose of the medication using a pharmaceutical return service. Contact Pharma Logistics through our website today or call (888) 561-3874 for more information about the pharmaceutical disposal services that are coming soon!
